Information for Upcoming Events & SET UP FOR Graduation

IT’s TIME
6th/5th Grade Awards Night
and Graduation Ceremony only Days Away!

Hi Everyone —

  • Awards Ceremony begins at 6:00pm Wednesday.  Envelopes went home to inform families if their child is receiving an award Wednesday and if so, to let the school know if they can attend.  Keep in mind there are also some awards given out during the graduation ceremony.
  • We need a crew to set up for Graduation Wednesday afternoon, 2:40-4:30.  Please respond to this email if you can help out.
  • Graduation will begin at 9:15am Thursday, doors will open at 8:45.
  • Please keep all aisles clear during the ceremony.  Students will be using them throughout.
  • A reminder to make sure your child is dressed in light clothing.  It gets very hot in the auditorium.  Please avoid layers.
  • There is a reception following the ceremony in the gymnasium. PLAN TO STAY A FEW MINUTES TO HELP CLEAN UP THE GYMNASIUM before leaving.
  • Traditionally parents take their child with them after the reception but there is coverage at the school if necessary.

So many parents have worked determinedly with the teachers and administration to make this a special, memorable occasion.  We can’t wait to share with special day with you and your family.

See you soon!

Dance Recap

The Gym just before our children showed up!
6th/5th Grade Dance Recap

Hello All

From all accounts the dance was an enormous success.  The decorations ROCKED!!!!!!!  The food was abundant (and by abundant, we mean…..abundant)!  — Enough for us to share with locals as well as unplanned treat for the students when school got out Friday.

The DJ was terrific and really kept the kids engaged.  They danced and danced — with the teachers, with each other.  And the photobooth was a big hit, so were the ices.  We finished the afternoon handing out the t-shirts and it was so cute — lots of kids put them on immediately and kept them on.  They looked terrific!

We are making arrangements to share all the photos taken by our parent volunteers.  Please stay tuned for details.

It was truly a smooth and joyous occasion.  The only area that needs work is clean up.  We fell to a skeleton crew very quickly and what ended up being a 2 hour clean up could easily have been 1 hour with more people.  With our Graduation Reception coming up this Thursday, please plan on staying to clean up afterwards for about 20 minutes.  We are all volunteers and we all want to continue the celebration and many are planning to take their children to lunch so the more that help to clean up afterwards, the quicker we get to leave!

Details regarding Thursday coming soon.

Thank you all so much!

ARIS Replacement: NYC Schools Account

The DOE has just launched a new online account system so parents can access student data. Parents will  be able to review recent attendance, report card grades, and contact information in one of ten languages from any internet-ready device. Additional information, including students’ test scores, will be added to NYC Schools accounts in August.

To create an account: An NYC Schools account can be created for the parent or guardian who resides with a student and has primary access to the student’s academic and biographical records.

Step 1: Visit your child’s school, or schedule an appointment to create an account. When setting up an account, be sure to bring:

  • A valid photo ID:
    • Passport
    • Driver’s license, State ID, or permit;
    • IDNYC
  • Your child’s 9-digit NYC student ID number (you can find this on your child’s academic records, including a report card). If you do not have your child’s ID number, ask your school.
  • A valid email address. Register for a free email address using Gmail, Hotmail, or Yahoo.

Step 2: Sign into your NYC Schools account from a computer, phone, or tablet by visiting:http://schools.nyc.gov/myaccount.

About the Dance tomorrow

IT’s TIME
6th/5th Grade Dance

Hi Everyone —

Our Decorations Master — Tove — has outdone herself with her vision and the gym looks amazing thanks to the many volunteers who have shown up the last couple of days to make it all happen.  A HUGE THANK YOU to you all.  Not just for the effort, but for the fun and good times.

The majority of the decorations in the gym will remain through graduation next week so you will all get to see it!

Volunteers to set up for tomorrow, please arrive between 9:45 and 10:00am.
CHAPERONES:  Everyone who has contacted us to chaperone are welcome to come.  The teachers have requested that we all refrain from hovering over the children and simply be there to replenish food tables, facilitate giving out gifts, helping out with anything else to make the event run smoothly.

We have two parents who have volunteered to take photos of the event and share with the entire 6th/5th gr families.  Stay tuned!

And a special thank you to the parents who are stepping up at the last second to provide desserts for tomorrow!

Thank you all so much!
